Sleeper Lake Fire

Part documentary, part self portrait, this experimental documentary follows the filmmaker's night embedded with a wilderness fire fighting crew on the overnight shift, putting out the final hot spots of one of Michigan's largest wilderness fires ever. Narrated by the crew leader, Jeff Noble, reading an essay he wrote about the experience and intercut with footage of the filmmaker on the land after the fire and in her hotel room in the sleepless day after her experience- the film explores the interchanging roles of the observer and the observed in the process of documenting a shared experience.
