PIRATE SCHOOL

A podcast and transmedia exploration of what it means to raise a family at “the end of the world”. Inspired by the 40 year old PBS series about kids living on a sailboat called Voyage of the Mimi, the narrator considers a similar educational path for her family, while delving into the lives of other parents and young people in her community. Pirate School asks: what does a good education look like in a rapidly changing environment? And how do we live meaningfully in the present moment while preparing for an uncertain, and possibly catastrophic social, economic and environmental future? Is living on a boat the answer? In early production.

IF I DIDN’T CARE

A documentary film about an actress whose life becomes intimately entangled with the work, legacy and spectre of Tennessee Williams. A Julliard trained actress, Beth Bartley leaves New York City to star as Blanche DuBois in a New Orleans production of Streetcar Named Desire. In New Orleans she falls deeper in love with the idea of Williams, his personal history, and the characters that he created. She meets and marries a native New Orleanian who is obsessed with playing the role of Stanley. The life they create with one another in the French Quarter is shaped by their obsession with Williams, and the lines become blurred between fantasy and reality. Their lives and even their personal affectations take on some of the drama and style of Williams world in a way that points to the themes of passion, self delusion, and the death of the antebellum south so prevalent in all of his work. In pre-production.
